Best ever results for the Summer Reading Challenge in Caldicot Library

Summer Reading Challenge in Caldicot LibraryDuring the summer holidays, Caldicot Library was buzzing with children taking part in the national Summer Reading Challenge. This year’s theme, Creepy House, really captured the imagination of the children visiting the library and we recorded our best ever results!

400 children started the challenge (that’s a 75% increase on last year) and 223 children completed it (that’s a 68% increase on last year).

The 223 children who completed the challenge read a minimum of 6 books each during the school holidays – so that’s a minimum of 1,338 books!

A recent study from the Institute of Education (IOE) found that children who read for pleasure are likely to do significantly better at school than their peers, so let’s hope all the children who visited the library continue to enjoy the wonderful range of books that are available.
