Monmouth Library hosted this event in conjunction with the Macmillan in Monmouthshire Libraries Cancer Information and Support Service, Monmouthshire Youth Service, GAVO, the Health Promotion Library, Monmouthshire Sports Development, Gwent Cancer Support and HOPE support services.
A ‘Create a Canvas’ session was held throughout the afternoon by Amanda Edwards of Monmouthshire Youth Service on the theme of ‘family’, with contributions to the art work by visitors who included the Mayor.
The final colourful piece will be put up in the teenage area of the library which has recently had a new sofa and cancer information point for young people installed.
A knit along was held during the afternoon, a smoothie bike kindly manned by Monmouthshire Sports Development was popular with the young people and even the staff had a go at making a smoothie.
Several young people enjoyed a shared reading session and a Tai Chi taster session which was kindly run by Monmouth Leisure Centre. Prizes for the quiz and story competition were handed out and the event was concluded by young people from the Hope team.
The aim of the afternoon was to highlight the advice and information that is available for local young people who may be coping with cancer, either themselves or someone who is close to them.
