Chepstow Library staff embraced the outdoors on Saturday. Stephen and Debbie from ‘Hawks and Owls’ delighted 70 children taking part in the Creepy House Summer Reading Game by bringing four of their owls to the library reading garden. Toby the Tawny Owl, Hooch the Bengal Eagle Owl, Oscar the Barn Owl and Bobo the Scops Owl are now all firm favourites with library customers of all ages! Stephen and Debbie told their captivated audience all about owls, answered questions and then gave everyone the opportunity to hold an owl. The children listened to owls stories and made an owl to go home. Chepstow Library have two more Creepy House linked story time and activity sessions this summer – Cat Capers on Thursday 15 August at 11am and Spooky Spiders on Tuesday 20 August at 11am.
Library staff were also at the Chepstow Agricultural Show on Saturday sharing a stand with Community Education. Over 80 people stopped to chat in the morning; some already library customers, others just keen on taking away a balloon! Eighteen new library members were enrolled on the day with others taking away information about the library and the activities we have on offer. Twenty one children also signed up to take part in Creepy House, our summer reading game aimed at encouraging children to carry on reading over the summer holidays. Library staff will certainly be paying a return visit to the Show next year!
