Knitting, gardening, exercise, crafts, board games, reading groups, computers, information. Digital stories, films, BOOKS…and much, much more.
Libraries in Monmouthshire are not just about books, there are many really fun and innovative things happening in libraries for you to enjoy.
Local libraries offer an up to date range of titles for you to borrow and they offer a host of other services such as public computers, DVDs to borrow, friendly areas to sit and browse and even public gardens!
Then there are all the amazing activities on offer. First click guides the computer novice on a journey of discovery, shared reading sessions open up possibilities to experience the relaxation of someone reading aloud, craft activities keep all ages amused.
Libraries are also linking with important partners like Macmillan Cancer Support to bring free cancer information and support to anyone who needs it along with knitting groups, board games groups, events and activities-for example did you know that last Christmas the knitting group made a knitted Christmas tree?
The Leisure Centres and National Exercise Referral Scheme also work very closely with libraries and they will be present to show you how to keep fit and healthy while introducing you to the range of activities they can offer, supported by the wellbeing books available in the library.
All in all there is something for everyone in your local library.
Come along to our showcase event on Thursday 4th April for you to get a taster of what libraries can offer you.
On hand will be people to help you to discover the range of books about gardening and help with your gardening queries; find a new hobby book or sport, look through the wellbeing books or information about living with and beyond cancer and books which may help to cope with issues such as anxiety.
Enjoy a taster session of tai chi, make a bookmark to take home, join a group, find out more about the home book delivery service or sign up to first click.
There will be a knitting Masterclass in the morning which will demonstrate how the wool gets from the sheep to a square, along with a display of all the things the groups have been knitting and doing to support local projects.
At 12 noon there will be a ‘knit-a-thon’ in aid of Macmillan. Cast on 40 stitches then get busy knitting to find out who can knit the most in 15 minutes. We suggest entrants make a donation to take part and there will be a prize for the winner and tea and biscuits for everyone who joins in!
Free parking for this event available at Monmouth Comprehensive School.
Ask in your local library for more details or a timetable of activities and events taking place or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
