A new community group, The Friends of Caldicot Library – an enthusiastic voluntary organisation set up last month to support the library through new ideas, feedback, raising its profile and fundraising – helped staff to mark National Libraries Day (Saturday 9th February) with a stall at the town’s market.
The group gave out balloons and encouraged residents to join the library while the Mad Hatter (Tash Harron-Edwards) invited children to take part in a Caldicot Library Super Hero competition. Visitors to the library were treated to tea and biscuits.
The library also produced a display, featuring photographs of customers with their comments on why they love Caldicot Library. We also received some lovely comments on the day, including “the library is the best thing we pay for with the council tax”.
Although only recently established the Friends of Caldicot Library have already submitted a bid to Monmouthshire Housing Association to improve the garden beds surrounding the library. This will make the library more welcoming and attractive while bringing pleasure to residents and visitors.
The next general meeting of the Friends group will be in Caldicot Library on Saturday 2nd March at 10am, followed by the launch of Susan Hooper’s new book, An Hour Year.
