Libraries Out and About in the Local Community

Two members of staff from Monmouth Library attended the opening of the new Overmonnow Family Learning Room on Thursday 9 June.  New links are presently being forged with Flying Start, hopefully including monthly rhymetimes at the Centre, a group book loan for the story corner and visits to the post-natal classes.

Sallyanne Powell, Senior Library Assistant at Chepstow visited the Chepstow Community Hospital post-natal group to hold a rhymetime and publicise Monmouthshire Libraries commitment to services for Under 5s and their parents / carers.

The ‘Breathe Easy’ group based at Chepstow Senior Citizens Club, were asked for a visit from library staff.  Sue Wallbank and Sallyanne Powell visited on Wednesday 22 June and gave a talk about the development of libraries within Chepstow from the 1800s onwards and how the impending refurbishment of Chepstow Library will mean Chepstow has a library fit for the 21st century.  The library staff were treated to extremely nice cupcakes!

Sue Wallbank & Sallyanne Powell were also invited to the civic service officially inaugurating Chepstow’s’ new town mayor, Cllr. Henry Hodges.  Following the service at St. Mary’s Priory Church, guests then attended a civic reception at the Drill Hall.  Attendees were also given an illustrated talk presented by medieval character, Brother Thomas, aka Chepstow Society’s Keith Underwood, on the mural  displayed in the Drill Hall depicting the history of Chepstow.
