Improving Services with Information Technology (IT)

In June, following on from the successful trial period in Monmouth, public WiFi was launched in all our libraries. Anyone, library customer or not, is welcome to search the internet using our WiFi hotspots. This service compliments our existing public network provision, which, in addition to the Internet, also provides customers with access to applications, scanning and printing facilities.

June also saw a major upgrade to our Library Management System. Whilst not being particularly noteworthy in its own right, the upgrade will give us the capability to take part in the All Wales ebooks trial starting in September. It will also enable us to offer new developments such as sending email notices to customers with email addresses, significantly reducing the cost of sending out printed notices.
